Hi. It will be easier with it off, however with the bracket bolt off (top) and with the exhaust manifold cover out you can force it (gently) out of the way (to the left as you face the engine) just enough to get to the bolt. No problem, I'm not sure if your aware but you don't need to remove your timing belt to remove the high pressure diesel pump. Rotate the crank to bring the two small pulley holes into line with the two m6 threaded holes in the aluminium backplate and then use 2 of the timing belt cover bolts to lock the pump pulley in place on the backplate.

Well worth having the egr valve off and giving it a good clean with carb cleaner. If symptoms persist, it is probably turbo related a la above forum link. Posted 9 years ago
An open EGR valve allows exhaust gases getting into the engine but at the wrong time. Common warning signs to look for are: Rough idling. The engine does not kick off. Stalling and hesitation of the engine. The check engine light coming on. Increased emission is a warning sign.
Just wanted to share my findings whilst trying to fix my diesel 2009 Vauxhall Insignia CDTI.
Im thinking of getting an insignia estate for running around in, the petrols seem to be a fir bit more than a diesel and i had a fair bit of hassle with an old astra and its egr valve clogging up which id like to avoid again. So my questions are: does a 2009/10 model have a DPF or EGR -and which is less hassle?
Recently changed to an insignia 2011, 2.0 dth, auto. Engine was changed due to common oil pressure failure. Replacement engine with 49k fitted inc the turbo. Have one problem, a boost leak.
